Description
Lenovo PS8S 1TB External Portable SSD – USB 3.2 Gen 2
General Description
Carry your files, projects and compatible game libraries wherever you go with the Lenovo PS8S 1TB Portable SSD. Combining high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 performance with an ultra-slim metal body, it provides a fast and convenient storage solution for computers, compatible mobile devices and gaming consoles.
The PS8S delivers sequential read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s when connected to a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. This makes it suitable for transferring large photographs and videos, backing up documents, carrying creative projects and managing compatible game files.
Its solid-state construction contains no moving mechanical components, providing quiet operation and improved resistance to everyday vibration compared with a conventional portable hard drive. The stylish metal enclosure offers additional physical protection while keeping the drive compact and lightweight.
Measuring approximately 109.9 × 28.9 × 8.9 mm and weighing only 40 g, the PS8S fits comfortably in a pocket, laptop sleeve or camera bag. USB-C connectivity provides broad compatibility with supported Windows PCs, Macs, Android devices and USB-C iPad Pro models.
The drive can also be formatted for compatible PlayStation and Xbox consoles, subject to the storage and gameplay restrictions imposed by each console platform.

Performance Requirements
To approach the maximum advertised speeds, the connected device must provide:
-
A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port supporting 10Gbps
-
A compatible high-speed USB-C cable
-
Suitable internal storage performance
-
Adequate processing capability
-
Appropriate files and operating conditions
Connecting the SSD through USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 or a slower USB-C port will limit transfer speeds to the maximum supported by that connection.
Sustained write performance may decrease during extended transfers, when the drive is almost full or when temperature-management systems become active.
Windows Compatibility
The Lenovo PS8S can be used with compatible Windows computers for:
-
File storage and transfer
-
Document and system backups
-
Photograph and video libraries
-
Creative project files
-
Portable game libraries
-
General external storage
The operating system may request permission to format the SSD before its first use. Formatting deletes all existing data.
Mac Compatibility
Compatible Mac computers can use the PS8S for regular file storage, creative projects or backup purposes. Reformatting may be necessary depending on the original file system and intended use.
Common file-system options include:
-
exFAT: Suitable for sharing files between Windows and macOS.
-
APFS: Recommended for modern Mac-only storage.
-
Mac OS Extended: Suitable for selected older macOS workflows.
Time Machine may require the SSD to be reformatted into a compatible Mac file system before it can be selected as a backup drive.
Android and iPad Compatibility
The SSD can connect to supported Android phones, Android tablets and USB-C iPad models that offer:
-
USB host or OTG support
-
Sufficient power through the USB connection
-
Support for the selected file system
-
A compatible file-management application
On a supported iPad, compatible files can generally be accessed through the Files app. Some mobile devices may require a powered USB hub or additional adaptor.
Lightning-equipped iPads require compatible adapters and may have different power requirements.
PlayStation Compatibility
The PS8S can be formatted as extended USB storage for compatible PlayStation consoles.
-
PlayStation 4: Compatible PS4 games can generally be stored and played directly from the external SSD.
-
PlayStation 5: PS4 games can generally be stored and played from USB extended storage. PS5 games may be stored externally but normally must be copied back to compatible internal storage before gameplay.
Formatting the SSD through the console permanently removes any files already stored on it.
Xbox Compatibility
Compatible Xbox consoles can format the drive for games and applications.
-
Xbox One games can generally be stored and played from a compatible USB 3.0 or later external SSD.
-
Backwards-compatible games may be playable directly from the drive on Xbox Series consoles.
-
Games optimised for Xbox Series X|S generally require the internal SSD or an approved expansion card for gameplay, although they may be stored on a USB external drive.
When formatted for Xbox storage, the SSD may need to be reformatted before it can be used normally with a computer again.
