Description
Lenovo PS8S 2TB External Portable SSD – USB 3.2 Gen 2
General Description
Carry high-capacity storage in an exceptionally compact form with the Lenovo PS8S 2TB Portable SSD. Combining fast USB 3.2 Gen 2 performance, a durable metal body and a lightweight 40 g design, it is ideal for transferring, storing and backing up photographs, videos, games, documents and other important files.
Sequential read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s allow large files to be transferred substantially faster than with a traditional portable hard drive. When connected to a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, the PS8S can support demanding tasks such as editing high-resolution media, moving project folders and loading compatible games.
Its slim metal enclosure measures approximately 109.9 × 28.9 × 8.9 mm, making it easy to carry in a pocket, laptop sleeve or camera bag. The solid-state design contains no moving mechanical components, providing quieter operation and better everyday impact resistance than a conventional portable hard drive.
A USB-C connection provides broad compatibility with supported Windows computers, Macs, Android devices and USB-C iPad Pro models. The drive can also be formatted for compatible PlayStation and Xbox consoles, subject to each console’s external-storage requirements.

Performance Requirements
Maximum advertised speeds require:
-
A computer or device with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps port
-
A compatible high-speed USB-C cable
-
Suitable files, software and operating conditions
-
Adequate host-device performance
-
Sufficient available storage capacity
When connected to USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 or a slower USB-C port, the SSD will operate at the maximum speed supported by that connection.
Sustained transfer performance may decrease during extended write operations, when the drive is nearly full or when thermal management becomes active.
Windows Compatibility
The PS8S can be used with compatible Windows PCs for:
-
File storage and backups
-
Transferring large photographs and videos
-
Portable game libraries
-
Creative project files
-
Document transport
-
General external storage
Depending on the factory file system, Windows may request permission to format the drive before first use. Formatting permanently deletes existing data.
Mac Compatibility
Compatible Mac computers can use the SSD for file storage, media projects and backups. The drive may need to be reformatted depending on its original file system and intended use.
Common format options include:
-
exFAT: Suitable when files must be shared between Windows and macOS.
-
APFS: Recommended for modern Mac-only use.
-
Mac OS Extended: Suitable for selected older macOS workflows.
Time Machine may request a compatible Mac-specific format before the drive can be used for backups.
Android and iPad Compatibility
The SSD can connect to supported Android phones, Android tablets and USB-C iPad models that provide:
-
USB host/OTG support
-
Sufficient power through the USB port
-
Support for the drive’s selected file system
-
A compatible file-management application
Some mobile devices may not supply enough power or may require a powered USB hub. Compatibility should be confirmed with the device manufacturer.
Lightning-equipped iPads require additional compatible adapters and may have different power requirements.
PlayStation Compatibility
The drive can be formatted as extended USB storage for compatible PlayStation consoles.
-
PlayStation 4: Compatible PS4 games can generally be stored and played directly from a correctly formatted USB drive.
-
PlayStation 5: PS4 games can generally be stored and played from USB extended storage. PS5 games may be stored on the drive but normally must be copied back to compatible internal storage before they can be played.
The PlayStation will format the drive for console use, deleting all existing files.
Xbox Compatibility
Compatible Xbox consoles can format the PS8S for game and application storage.
-
Xbox One games can generally be stored and played from a compatible USB 3.0 or later external drive.
-
Backwards-compatible games may be playable directly from the drive on newer Xbox consoles.
-
Games optimised for Xbox Series X|S generally require the console’s internal SSD or an approved expansion card for gameplay, although they may be stored on a USB external SSD.
Formatting the drive as Xbox game storage removes existing files and may prevent normal computer access until the drive is reformatted again.

Important Information
-
Advertised transfer speeds are maximum laboratory results; actual performance will vary.
-
A USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps connection is required to approach the stated speeds.
-
USB-C describes the connector shape and does not guarantee a particular transfer speed.
-
Usable capacity will be lower than 2TB after formatting and differences in decimal and binary capacity measurement.
-
Reformatting erases all information stored on the drive. Back up important files before changing the file system.
-
Console formatting may dedicate the drive to that console and make stored computer files inaccessible.
-
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S impose restrictions on playing current-generation games from standard USB storage.
-
Android and iPad compatibility depends on USB host support, available power and file-system support.
-
The metal enclosure may become warm during sustained high-speed transfers; this is normal within the manufacturer’s operating limits.
-
The SSD is designed for improved everyday durability but is not described as waterproof or indestructible.
-
Always eject the drive safely before disconnecting it to reduce the risk of data corruption.
-
Maintain a separate backup of important files. No storage device should be treated as the only copy of irreplaceable data.
